Rarely has unanimity been this calm: 79/100 across six reviews, four of them at a flat 80 (AllMusic, Metal Hammer, Classic Rock, Distorted Sound), plus Album of the Week honors at Stereogum. Thirty-three years after Slip, Walter Schreifels and co. still set the standard — Stereogum even has fun hearing, in these galloping tempos, everything Turnstile has spent a career borrowing from them.
The consensus is crystal clear: the band has lost nothing. Classic Rock hears a record that « fizzes with energy and life », Distorted Sound « vast soundscapes colliding with raw and intense emotions », citing « Get To It », « Supercollider » and « Days You Run To ». Spectrum Culture (85) calls it « a sonic return to the salad days, when Quicksand cracked open the hardcore formula ».
What divides? Not much, and that’s almost the catch: nobody’s calling it a classic. PopMatters (70), the least enthused, still concedes that « their patented sound is evergreen ». Public at 74/100, press at 79: a veterans’ record that reinvents nothing and gets everything right. An 8, no hesitation.
